Las Vegas, Nevada (November 3 to 6, 2015): Once again, the annual SEMA Show opened its doors at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and along with it the AAPEX trade exhibition at the Sands Convention Center near the Venetian Hotel Complex. SEMA is the premier automotive products trade event in the world. The 2014 Show drew more than 60,000 domestic and international buyers, more than 2,000 innovative products and 3,000 members of the press. This year could experience more growth due to increasing interest and recovering worldwide economies. During the opening day of SEMA, November, 3, 2015, two prestigous awards were given: The Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award to hot rod legend, Mr. Art Chrisman and the annual SEMA Awards: 1. Hottest Card: Ford Mustang; 2. Hottest Truck: Ford F-Series; 3. Hottest 4 x 4 -SUV: Jeep Wrangler; and 4. Hottest Sport Compact: Ford Focus. There are few names in hot rodding and drag racing that can compare to Mr. Art Chrisman. From humble beginnings in Complton, California, Mr. Chrisman very quickly rose to the ranks of racing lore in the early to late 50s achieving record speeds in drag racing. The 2015 Petersen award was presented to Mr. Chrisman via live video feed by Car Crazy host Mr. Barry Meguiar in front of thousands of media representatives during the opening day of the 2015 SEMA show. Previous winners of this prestigious award include Carroll Shelby,Jack Roush and the Ford Family. The 2015 SEMA awards were presented SEMA Chairman of the Board, Mr. Doug Evans and SEMA President, Mr. Christopher Kersting to Ford and Chryler executives, respectively on November 3. Preceding these two major awards was a separate award ceremony conducted by the Texas Media Association inside the SEMA Media Center on Monday, November 2, 2015. The 2015 winners were: 1. Autojudge Car of the Year: Hyundai Genesis; 2. Autojudge SUV of the Year: Ford Explorer Platinum and the 3. Autojudge Truck of the Year: Ford F-150. The opening day of SEMA was highlighted by the following Press conferences from various automotive manufacturers starting with the KIA Motors, Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai then back to Honda Acura. There was a common theme amongst these press conferences: the very close and intimate relationship between consumer car manufacturing and motor/truck racing and competition. More often than not, all the press conferences introduced the each manufacturer's commitment to tuning and motorsport applications. For example, Honda presented their entry to the Baja 1000 Truck series and Chevrolet discussed its latest success and victory with the Corvette (GTE Pro Class driving the Corvette C7.R) in the presitgious 24 Hours of Le Mans for 2015. Also, Hyundai opened with its partnership and commitment to the NFL. Perhaps, the highlight of the press conferences were the introduction of the 2017 Acurs NSX and the parallels between the reconstruction of Ludacris' 1993 Acura Legend and the all new 2016 Acura ILX. Finally, the SEMA Show and AAPEX exhibits have no shortage of celebrities to include NASCAR drivers Michael Waltrip (three-time NASCAR champion) and Clint Bowyer (driver for Michael Waltrip Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) and NHRA legend Mr. John Force (16-time Funny car champion) and his daughters, Courtnery and Brittany Force and son-in-law: Robert Hight, all of whom are invovled in drag racing and also known as the "First Family of Drag Racing".
