Paris, France (1 October to 16 October 23016): The biennial Paris Motor Show has come upon us once again with some impressive line-up of World Premiers and Concept Cars introduced to members of the Press corp and the public. Press days were on Thursday, 29 September and Friday, 30 September. Most notable and striking of the world premiers was the 2018 Ferrari La Ferrari Aperta (Italian for "Open"): the roadster has the same powertrain as the coupe which is a 6.3L V12 engine supplemented by an electric motor with a total output of 949PS. The roadster comes with a soft top with an optional removable carbon-fiber hard top. The L-shaped flaps on the upper corners of the windshield is new and prevents aerodynamic drag. New modifications include angled radiators, larger front spolers and lower underbody pinnings. Total production is limited to 209 vehicles with 200 already spoken for and the balance 9 will not be sold but be part of Ferrari's 70th anniversary celebration next year. Another world premier was the 2018 Auid RS3 Quattro Sportback which will be coming to the US in the summer of 2017. The powertrain consists of 400PS and 354 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5L Turbo five cylinder engine. This combined with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission will rocket the 2018 Audi RS3 from 0 to 62mph in 4.1 seconds. It shares its MQB platform with the 2017 Audi TT RS. Rumors that the US cost will be well above the 50K range when it comes to these shores next summer. These two premiers were exceptional as noted above but also worth noting this year that other marquee brands routinely in the Paris Motor Shows in the past were missing: Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Bentley. These may been related to the cost-cuttng measures by the German giant VW AG due to its diesel emission scandal in North American since the Fall of 2015. Moving on the the concept cars which are usually as equally eye-catching in past and present shows were the following: 1. Mercedes Maybach 6 Concept and Generation EQ (Electric with a claimed 310 mile driving range from a single charge); 2.BMW X2 Concept; 3. Hyundai New York Concept; 4. and finally the VW ID Concept (Electric). Finally, Porsche also announced its latest participation in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup highlighting the transistion from the 997 to th 991 platform for all naturally aspirated racing cars.
