Munich, Germany (7 September to 12 September, 2021): The IAA Mobility 2021 is the new version of the IAA that was last held in Franfurt in 2019. This was a totally new presenation of the most famous world automobile show in the past half a century, that occurred biennially in Frankfurt am Main. The diesel scandal that engulfed Volkswagen and its subsidiaries was probably the main reason for this transition to electric mobility together with the contract expiration of the VDA (German Association of Automotive Industry) with Frankfurt Messe. Therefore, the birth of the IAA Mobility 2021, at Munich this year. Half of the indoor exibition at the Munich Messe was devoted to two-wheeled electric mobility and bicycles. This was a hybrid show, consisiing of both an indoor space and an outdoor space for the exhibitors. The main companies in the indoor space at the Munich Messe were the following: 1. Renault, 2. BMW and 3. Volkswagen. The main marquee companies in the outdoor space located in downtown Munich, were the following: 1. Audi, 2. PorscheĀ  and 3. Mercedes-Benz. Notably missing were the usual IAA exhibitors from the past shows such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti and Aston Martin. The main press conferences occurred on Monday, 6 September 2021 at the indoor space in Munich Messe: 1. Renault: had a the world premier of its all electic MEGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC, 2. BMW: introduced its all electric BMW iVISION CIRCULAR CONCEPT as well as a review of the all-electric i4 and iX and the two-wheeled electric concept: VISION AMBY, and finally, 3. Volkswagen: introduced its VOLSKWAGEN ID.LIFE concept in anticipation of carbon neutrality in the future, 4. ZOOZ: a GPS independent and non-subscription device for bicycle safety. The main press conferences occured at the outdoor space in downtown Munich: 1. Porsche: with its world premier of the all-electric MISSION R CONCEPT which is an all electric concept racecar which would likely envision a race ready production car for Porsche in the future similar to the Mission E concept which preceded the all electric Taycan, 2. Audi: on display were the Audi e-tron GT RS with brand ambassabors Nico Rosberg (2016 Formula 1 champion), Oliver Kahn (CEO of Bayern Munich) and Felix Neureuther (Former German Alpine skiier) at the outdoor booth. The second was the world premier of the all-electric GRAND SPHERE CONCEPT, which is part of the triology sphere concept introduced by Audi: which is expected to succeed the current A8 with autonomous driving, 3. Mercedes-Benz: the outdoor space premiered two (2) all eletric vehicles, A. MAYBACH EQS CONCEPT: all electric version of the current version of the petrol Mayback and B. AMG EQS 53 4MATIC: all-electric version of the curent petrol AMG 53 sedan. The final press conference highlighted was Valeo which actually summarized the entire theme of the new IAA Mobility format on 7 September 2021: 1. Accelerating Electrification, 2. Spotlight back on ADAS or Autonomous Driving: currently in the EU, two vehicles are now available with LEVEL 3 ADAS: the Mercedes-Benz S Class and the Honda Legend Sedan, the first two cars in the world offering this attribute and finally, not to forget the Covid-19 pandemic, 3. Health and Well-being: offering advanced Air-cabin filtration systems that eliminates over 90% of virus and bacteria in the indoor car ventilation as well AI non-invasive detection of Covid-19 in lieu of the notorious PCR test. The new format was certainly a challenge to navigate due to the distance from the indoor Messe space and the outdoor downtown space. However, we expect the for the future IAA Mobility 2023 at Munich, all the these challenges will be ironed out and a much smoother show will progress.
